Age 83, of Moncton, passed away within the comforts of his home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Born in Wolfville, he was the son of the late Karl and Minnie (nee Cross) Nowlan. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Pearl Nowlan (nee White); sons, Craig Nowlan (Christina), Robert Nowlan (Shelina) and Mark Nowlan (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Bryce, Deborah, Ally, Vanessa, Kory, Nick, and Ryerson; seven great grandchildren, Athena, Denver, Ashton, Willow, Wrenley, Scottie, and Navy; brother, James Nowlan (Betty Lou); sister-in-law, Joyce Nowlan; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Bruce left home in Wolfville in 1958 joining the bank of Montreal in Halifax, and worked in several branches in the Metro Halifax area before being transferred to Stephenville, NFLD in March 1960. A subsequent transfer took him to Botwood, NLFD, where he met and married his wife Pearl in 1964. Subsequent transfers to Glace Bay and Yarmouth and eventually back to NFLD where he was appointed manager in Bishops Falls, and in 1970 was transferred back to NS as manager in Port Hawkesbury. In 1975 he transferred to the credit department at the regional office in Halifax resulting in their residency in Windsor, NS. His final move with the bank was in 1977 when he was transferred to Moncton, NB. After 25 years in the banking industry, Bruce left the bank and chose to permanently settle in New Brunswick. He purchased Tri Province Enterprises and successfully ran the business with his three sons and many dedicated employees. After 40 years he retired and sold the business in 2023.
Over the years Bruce was involved in many organizations including the Lions Club, Scouts Canada, he was a Cub and Scout leader. Bruce did not measure life by what you had, but what you did with it. While his children were growing up, he spent endless hours with them enjoying their sporting activities. Travelling and camping in the majority of the National Parks in Eastern Canada. Life at the cottage in Cape Breton and enjoying all seasons to their fullest, he taught his three sons the joys of snowmobiling which they have continued to this day as well as camping, boating and most outdoor sporting activities.
Bruce's love for the "country life" resulted in the move to their paradise home in Pleasant Vale, NB. In the mid 80's he had great enjoyment in the acquisition of wooded land and an old camp, eventually turning these into a beautiful chalet home and property.
A family cottage on Washademoak Lake provided many years of great enjoyment and fellowship with boating, campfires and regular firework displays. A relaxing moment was the reading of a good book from his "shore deck" as well as stargazing and birdwatching. Bruce enjoyed travelling and over the years visiting many parts of the world by cruise ship as well as river cruises as well as bus trips in Europe and Great Britain. Many a winter month has been spent on the Caribbean Island of St. Maarten, as well as their Florida home in Lakeland. One of Bruce's last great memories was watching the Toronto Maple Leafs win their last Stanley Cup, while living in Newfoundland back in 1967.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Dwight, Karl and Paul; and sisters, Miriam and Joyce.
A Celebration of Bruce's life will be held at The Moncton Masonic Temple (115 Queen St) on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be held in Pleasant Vale Cemetery, Pleasant Vale.
